Skatepunk, the golden years.

Via a blog (do not remember now which one) I found Guns of Brages last night, and there I was sitting reading in a few hours. It felt like going back in time when he wrote a lot about the bands I listened to a lot of early to mid 90's, so I could relate to much of what he wrote. There are still days when I pick up Mike and co, just last week I had "Heavy Petting Zoo" in the car. Love this clip of Fat Mikes version of Mtv cribs. Search youtube for even more funny clips with Mike/Nofx.

I have not kept myself updated about the skatepunk scene since 97-98. Therefore I surfed on and found both this and that, among other things, that Lagwagon is releasing a box set on December 17th with the first five albums reissued with some unreleased tracks bonus goodies.

One of my best memories from this time is when me and my best friends was on Hultsfredsfestivalen 1996 to see Pennywise, Disfear, Refused, Rocket From The Crypt, Kent and Bad Religion among many others. In the end of the concert it's getting out of hand and the band ask the crowd to join em on stage. I tried my best to get up there but got stopped by several guards when Fletcher (guitarist) says, "Don't you fucking dare to touch my friend!". He personally reaches down and give me a helping hand up on stage. One minute later the chaos is a fact and me and about 30-40 others mosh it up and singalong in one of their hit songs Bro Hymn. I was 16 years old and felt immortal.

If you're in the mood for something else than d-beat and rawpunk check out some of my skatepunk favourites from back in the days:
* Lagwagon - Trashed (1994)
* Nofx - Punk in drublic (1994)
* Propagandhi - Less talk, more rock (1996)
* Randy -The rest is silence (1996)
* Skumdum - S/t (1996)
* Millencolin - Use your nose (1993)

Unexpected? If you only knew...

Fuck yeah! I grew up with this stuff and still love Nofx and Millencolin. The Ribbed album is a skate session hymn!

Great, thanx for highlighting my stuff. Skate punk has been somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine for years and it's cool to share it.

I enjoyed your list, though I prefer "White trash, Two Heebs and a Bean"...
